Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber are perfectionists when it comes to their individual musical spirituality. Gothic contexts hitting upon an almost pseudo-intellectual stance is typical Delerium. Alas, it is interesting and deeply alluring in the sense of composing unique artistic dance music. This Mortal Coil aimed for such emotion and, unlike its other musical moniker, Frontline Assembly, Delerium allows for a calm and settling approach in making music. Poem lays into airy and burdened repetition, but the use of guest vocals makes it worthwhile. Modern rocker Matthew Sweet adds an edge to "Daylight," but the classicality found with using a female voice is what makes Delerium most familiar and most enjoyable. Mediaeval Baebes' Katharine Blake (ex-Miranda Sex Garden) throws "Aria" into a passionate tirade of electronic wizardry in abstract composition. Synth beats are heavy, yet the overall note progression aims for an anesthetizing seclusion. "Nature's Kingdom," featuring the lovely Kirsty Hawkshaw (Opus III) appeals in the same way. There's an inventiveness found on Poem, almost as striking as 1997's Karma, but the initial desire holds true.

Clive James once said that some cultural artefacts are so bland they "taste of cellophane". High School Musical 3: Senior Year makes cellophane taste like chicken jalfrezi. Yet behind the blandness - perhaps even generating the blandness as a symptom - there is something weird and conflicted going on.

owan Atkinson is a funny man. In fact, he's easily the funniest British comedian outside of the Pythons. He was in the British series Black Adder and American films such as Four Weddings and a Funeral and the recent Rat Race, but his most popular character is probably Mr. Bean.

The character gained popularity in the US mostly due to HBO running the series a couple years ago. Then the quirky guy hit the big screen in a movie that was funny, but recycled some of the best bits from the series. Now A&E has collected all fourteen episodes of the series on a three-disc set.

When The Silence of the Lambs took the Academy Awards ceremony by storm in 1992, winning in five major categories (Best Picture, Best Director - Jonathan Demme, Best Actor - Anthony Hopkins, Best Actress - Jodie Foster, and Best Adapted Screenplay - Ted Tally), it beat the odds in more ways than one. Granted, 1991 was a slow year for movies, and many pundits have remarked that the Oscar field was among the weakest ever (the other contenders were Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Bugsy, JFK, and the overrated The Prince of Tides), but the strong showing of The Silence of the Lambs was a surprise to almost everyone. In the first place, it was released in February 1991, a date thought to be beyond the short memories of the Academy members. Secondly, it is a dark psychological thriller - the kind of movie that occasionally receives a Best Picture nomination, but almost never takes home the statuette.

Although The Silence of the Lambs is brilliantly constructed and powerfully acted, and became one of the most recognizable thrillers of the '90s, it was neither the best movie of the year (a citation I would award to Beauty and the Beast) nor even the best thriller (overall, Dead Again impressed me more). The Silence of the Lambs contains a number of inarguably great scenes, but the screenplay, adapted from Thomas Harris' novel, suffers from a split personality. The scenes featuring Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) are the stuff of legends. However, the rest of the movie, which concentrates on the pursuit of serial killer Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine), has a familiar, derivative feel. In truth, the climax couldn't be more mundane.
