About this portable version

This version of Portable Avira AntiVir Personal 8.1.00.331 (Virus definitions file 7.00.6.111 -03/09/2008) was created with Thinapp, is fully portable and can be updated. It does not conflict with resident (active) protection software as it runs from a sandbox.

Before launching the application for the first time, place the executable "Avira AntiVir Personal.exe" within a folder of its own. I suggest you create a folder "Avira AntiVir Personal 8.1.00.331" (the downloaded archive will extract to such folder by default).

Launching the executable will create a folder called "Avira AntiVir Personal" within the host folder". Such folder - also called a sandbox - will hold data related to the application, including definitions updates, logfiles, aso.

The online definitions update has been disabled as it conflicts with the portability of the application. You can however easily update the files within the sandbox by performing a manual update.

To perform a manual update:

Download the file "ivdf_fusebundle_nt_en.zip" here - the file is constantly updated on Avira's server and you will always get the latest available one. Save the file to a location of your choice, select "Manual Update" and point to the file you just downloaded. The updating process will take a minute to complete.

Once the process has completed, you will notice that several subfolders were created within the sandbox. I recommend you keep all folders intact. You should however delete the folder that holds the downloaded file "ivdf_fusebundle_nt_en.zip".
If you run the application from drive D:, then the folder would be "%drive_D%Downloads". This woul avoid conflicts when running the application from another location.

If you need to copy the portable application to another location, COPY THE WHOLE FOLDER HOLDING THE APPLICATION (not just the executable !).
